Ammonia synthesis chamber

The first plant for the production of ammonia using the Haber-Bosch process was commissioned in Oppau near Ludwigshafen in 1913. The factory in Leuna was built in 1916/17. By 1991, over 25 million metric tons of ammonia had been produced there.

Our highlight is the ammonia reactor, including a fully functional circulation pump, a mole pump and spindle wall. Come by and learn everything about this extraordinary object from our museum guides.
